This tool works good in temperatures above 55 degrees anything lower and it cracks pvc everytime no matter how you do it I don’t understand why such an expensive tool with such promise wouldn’t have that sorted also the lock button is hard to hold onto needs improvement would recommend the Ryobi otherwise same cut for less money

Okay, so…I’ve been doing a crap ton of renovations lately that have necessitated extensive plumbing work. I saw a plumber using this last year and thought…meh…”got my trusty set of ratcheting cutters”. Looked at it a few times while purchasing other Milwaukee tools at the orange themed store, but couldn’t justify the price. My normally trustworthy “helper” ( read – college kid/summer help) kept giving me horridly angled cuts on short runs of PVC on a job a few months ago… Could you use the M12 hackzall? Sure. Could you use a small chop/miter saw? Sure. Could you use…ad infinitum…
Do you need it? Depends. Does it work (up to 2″ PVC)? Heck yes! Clean/even/no-de-burring the cuts? Yes! Somewhat idiot proof? (It’s a sharp blade slicing down that can’t engage without safeties pressed) Yes…depending on the level of idiocy. Will it save your forearms (and keep tendonitis in the wrists at bay)? More than likely.

This tool is in a tight, three-way Milwaukee race with the auto copper tubing cutter and the installation driver as my new favorite tool (haha…like my children, I love all my tools “equally”, just some better than others on certain days/jobs!)
Worried about price? Borrow one from a friend for a job. If you already have some M12 batteries, you’ll add this to your tool arsenal quickly!

You don’t need the large batteries. The smaller 1.5 ah are perfect and run for a couple hundred cuts. The small battery also makes it less cumbersome.
This tool has variable speed control. With manual cutters on thin wall pipe you need to start off slow and wiggle the blade through the first part of the cut to prevent the pipe to collapsing then once you make the initial penetration you can go ahead and cut at the normal pace. You can do that with this tool. You can start off slow and stop during the cut anytime you want. If I’m cutting pipe that’s been exposed to sunlight for a while and chances are it’s brittle, I like to make the entry cut nice and slow while wiggling the cutter through the cut to keep it from shattering the pipe.. You can do that with this tool. Buy it, you’ll be glad you did.

    Clean cuts works nice

  5. Richard Marsh

    Great tool

  6. Andrew

Great tool for quick cuts on abs and some pvc pipes. Leaves a clean edge with no burs.

I’m a plumber if nineteen years plus. I have cut so feet much PVC pipe.. among other types of plastic pipe. And by far the best way to cut them. It cuts fast and clean no mess to clean up in trims and in customers homes cuts straight as an arrow. Battery has last many days of cutting nothing but pipe. If the battery is new I have made it through two four and a half bathroom rough ins with not problems. Now if only made one to cut up to three inch they would sell out to all plumbers!!! Great product! Thank you Milluakee! Although it does cost a good chunk of change.. but it takes money to make it!?

This thing is great. Works perfectly, somewhat awkward to get going with the safety switches, but makes the job way easy. Worth every penny!

  9. Cutelikeakitty

Working on a job with all SHD 80….. cuts like butter, nice clean cuts

  10. Reliance Star Plumbing

I work for plumbing company there for pvc is what I use all day every day, and as I was looking for this tool, I read all the comments and reviews about this tool, and I decided to try it out!!!
You got to be kidding me!!!!!
As soon as I got that tool in my hand the job performance and speed increased by at least by 50% no kidding, all them reviews are useless if you don’t know what you doing and It was hard to determine if them customers have any idea what pvc is LOL but I can tell you for sure if it’s not a manufacturing defect that you get with the tool sometimes then you just don’t know what you doing if it’s not working out for you LOL.
This is like buying a car after you drove a bicycle for so many years.
This tool perform an excellent job, its battery last all day for 2days like you can’t beat that, cuts 2″ like butter and fast too, after using saw saw for 18years, this tool gave me more abilities to get my job done fast and keep it clean 100%, I noticed that it cuts all plastic pipes, but for those that claim it’s not strong enough or fast enough, maybe it’s time for you to find out that some batteries have more power than the others, lol , and that could be the case for your failure with this tool, even Dewalt has a limitation on batteries when it comes to using tools ( side drills takes bigger batteries then other tools like impact and power drills.

  11. Faustino Nuñez Arceo

Muy buen producto rápido y plactico

  12. Amazon Customer

    Pros:

Cuts clean, square and bur free. It does its job and it does it well.

Speed, speed, speed. Spend time doing the actual job and not cutting and cleaning pipes. Major productivity booster.

    Cons :
    Its heavier than it seems.

Cutting head is large because it’s meant to cut up to 2 inch diameter so it’s not ideal for tight quarters cutting. It’s more for fresh assembly.

Balance is acceptable for a Right handed person but it could be better. Balance is a little off for left handers but it is still functional. The safety switch is also better placed for right handers than left. Not a truly ambidextrous tool but definitely useable.

Still gets a 5 star for innovation and saving medical costs for surgery after manually doing thousands of cuts with ratchet cutter.

Milwaukee will get the 2nd gen on point for sure.

Do PVC plumbing once a week mostly 2in and some Schedule 80. Some projects are small some are big. This tool saves me a lot of time, makes a lot less mess than cutting, and makes perfect flat end cut which is key to good strong fittings. Battery life is crazy, I can not believe how many cuts it can make before new battery.
