Description
Forget everything you thought you knew about the skin microbiome – It’s time for a reboot!
Rebooting the Biome is the first and only book that aims to reshape the narrative about what it means to properly care for our skin by respecting the symbiotic nature of the entire skin ecosystem. The authors, Dr. Doris Day M.D. and Thomas M. Hitchcock, Ph.D., aim to take you on an entertaining journey through the skin biome filled with anecdotes, historical lessons and unexpected twists as we present new information and correct misinformation about the skin, the skin microbiome and the overall skin ecosystem that are inextricably linked to our health and beauty.
Rather than take outdated skin science and gut microbiome data and try to shoehorn it into dermatology, this book distills cutting-edge skin biome research and compares it to what we thought we knew. The authors’ goal is to have you completely rethink what it means to have healthy skin, as they show you how the secret to youthful, healthy skin and a better quality of life has been living on us the whole time.

This book isn’t really a read book to help you maintain and help you improve how you treat your skin. It was just a bunch of what appeared someone sharing what they think about skin, what and how someone thinks Stuff happens.

Love Your Skin! Rebooting the Biome by Dr. Doris Day and Dr. Thomas Hitchcock is an “eye-opener; hearing these two physicians address the skin and its interconnectedness with our entire body is refreshing.
They remind us that our skin plays a vital role in our health and our homeostasis regarding water retention, temperature regulation, and body protection via skin. Skin health is much more than keeping up a youthful appearance. It is our body’s largest organ! Just like our gut, our skin is home to millions of strains of bacteria and fungi that work together to protect us. I am sure there will be Volume 2! Order your book today here at Amazon! We have learned that ecosystems have a natural balance that we must not disrupt. When the gray wolf was eradicated from Yellowstone National Park in 1926, for example, the elk population grew unchecked, and the resulting defoliation disrupted the habitats and food sources of dozens of species. In 1995, a little wiser, we deliberately reintroduced gray wolves into the park to restore the ecosystem’s lost balance.
Skin science is just starting to catch up to the lessons we’ve learned about ecosystems. Drs. Hitchcock and Day explain the fascinating interactions between your facial skin and its collection of native wildlife (bacteria). Just as in the rest of the natural world, keeping the skin’s ecology in balance is essential for health. The authors maintain their own balance, sacrificing neither real science nor accessibility to the general reader, to produce this entertaining and highly readable tour of our personal microbiomes. Along the way, they teach us how to cultivate the strains of our natural skin bacteria that protect against pathogens, produce anti-inflammatories and antioxidants, and prevent diseases such as eczema and cancer.
This is a collaboration between a research scientist and a dermatologist, so it teaches us both sound theory and how to apply it: “The point of this book,” the authors tell us, “is to allow us to know better so we can do better.” They explain what disrupts our personal skin biomes and why, and how we can create the best environment for the powerful natural systems of our skin that allow it to clean, refresh, and protect itself.

Amazing read on how your skin biome works. The book explains how to protect our skin and keep it healthy, and our immune system thriving. Dr. Day uses analogies to explain how the Biome functions to make it easy and enjoyable to understand. –

I appreciate the fact that this book is based on science and clinical experience. Often with these types of books it can feel like the author/s are trying to sell something. Not the case with this book. It’s a healthy approach that invites you to re-examine your habits and introduce a healthy and balanced way of caring for your skin and ultimately yourself as a whole.
